In early June 2025, two employees of the Orchard Park Health Center in Centennial, Colorado, were formally charged in connection with a disturbing incident involving a 92-year-old patient. The extent of this abuse came to light when the victim, who suffers from dementia, was admitted to Sky Ridge Medical Center on May 9th with fractures at multiple points along her legs.
When asked, Orchard Park allegedly provided an inconsistent account, claiming that the injuries were the result of an unseen fall. This prompted a four-week investigation that eventually determined that nursing home negligence and abuse were at play. Through this investigation, the sheriff’s office says it learned that two employees at the health center were actively concealing the truth about how the woman got her injuries.
Soon after, arrest warrants were issued. Two suspects are already in custody, and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department has not ruled out additional charges. These allegations–still unproven in court–paint a grim picture of neglect and misconduct.
As this case progresses through the courts, it serves as a stark reminder that when proper safeguards fail, some of our most vulnerable community members suffer the consequences.
Nursing Home Neglect Can Hide in Seemingly Supportive Places
What makes this case especially troubling is where it happened: in a professional care facility, in a major Colorado suburb, under the supervision of trained medical staff. The patient wasn’t living alone or isolated, she was surrounded by caregivers who have a legal and ethical duty to ensure her safety. Yet, it was in this situation when a patient ended up in a hospital visit with untreated leg fractures and no plausible explanation.
Too often, elder abuse is imagined as something impossible or distant: happening in substandard facilities with clear warning signs. But the truth is that abuse and neglect can occur anywhere, including well-rated institutions and in seemingly safe communities.
Families who entrust their loved ones to long-term care providers expect compassion, oversight, and accountability. These recent arrests demonstrate how quickly that trust can be broken–and how difficult it can be to uncover the truth without persistence and external investigation. Without the diligence of hospital staff and law enforcement, the truth behind the victim’s injury may never have come to light.
Neglect and Abuse are Serious. The Response Should Be Too.
This case struck a chord with the team at McDivitt, as it’s a reminder of why we do the work that we do. Elder neglect and nursing home abuse are more common than many realize, and victims often lack the ability to speak up for themselves.
At McDivitt Law Firm, we’ve spent decades holding nursing homes and assisted living facilities accountable when they fail to meet the standard of care. When that standard is breached, the damage goes beyond physical injury–it can shake entire families. At McDivitt Law Firm, we understand that these cases are personal. That’s why we approach every claim with compassion, precision, and a firm commitment to our clients.
Families deserve answers. Victims deserve justice. Facilities that fail their patients deserve accountability.
McDivitt Law firm has been helping Colorado communities secure all three for more than 50 years.
