Colorado Springs, CO – Victims Hurt in Vehicle Wreck on Palmer Park at Academy Blvd
Colorado Springs, CO (June 21, 2022) – The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating the facts behind an automobile accident that occurred in the greater metropolitan area early on June 21.
On Tuesday around 11:05 a.m., investigators arrived at the collision scene to begin their investigation and breakdown of the wreck site. According to early reports and information provided by the CSPD, the incident happened near the junction of eastbound Palmer Park and Academy Boulevard, closing several right lanes of traffic.
At least two people were injured when law enforcement officials arrived at the scene. Despite this, it was found that none of the victims’ injuries was critical or life-threatening. Although the investigation into the incident is continuing and not yet complete, early findings from the CSPD’s investigation suggest that DUI and excessive speeding were not factors.
We sincerely hope that everyone who was hurt in this wreck will be able to recover quickly and completely.
Colorado Springs Auto Accident Research & Traffic Data
Officials report that 2021 was the deadliest year on record for vehicle accidents in Colorado, with 690 individuals losing their lives. This is a new record for the state of Colorado, representing a 10% increase from the prior year. And in the Centennial State, where the death rate per vehicle mile driven has increased dramatically, it is apparent that driving on the highways is very dangerous for both residents and tourists. Thus, the Colorado State Patrol has initiated a summer-long program to reduce the number of deadly car accidents on our roads.
However, given the fact that the state’s accident rate has risen regularly for many years, it seems impossible to halt the deluge. In fact, despite a roughly 14% decrease in traffic on Colorado’s highways and roads at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the traffic-related fatality rate increased by close to 6%. Clearly, driving on Colorado’s highways is without a doubt one of the most dangerous everyday activities for Coloradans.
