Lawmaker Speaks Out On Seatbelt Issue

May 19, 2011

A Colorado lawmaker, Senator Suzanne Williams, is making some provocative statements regarding an automobile accident in Texas she was involved in that killed the driver of another vehicle.

9News is reporting that the woman’s car came into oncoming traffic along US 385 on December 26, crashing into another vehicle head-on and killing the driver of that second vehicle.

The lawmaker’s young grandchild was ejected from the SUV. Her 41-year-old son and other grandson were in the vehicle as well. None except the driver had on a seatbelt, and miraculously, all survived.

Yesterday, Hartley County District Attorney, David Green, announced that a grand jury declined to indict the lawmaker in connection with the death involved in the accident. After the ruling, she was asked about why her passengers didn’t have on their seatbelts. Her response was, “That was my son’s decision. I was intent on the driving and that was his decision.”
